I like the idea of freshly baked sticky buns on a cold, snowy weekend morning. But, I like the idea much more than the actual work and preparation of making the dough the night before, then waking up early to proof, assemble and bake the sticky pans. That’s a lot of work for a weekend.
We don’t have a tradition for breakfast on Christmas. Some years we have a make ahead casserole, others we have some pastries and fruit, and last year I made biscuits and gravy. I don’t enjoy grocery shopping. It always seems to take longer than it should when I can never manage to find what I need in my uncomfortably crowded local store. Instead of dreading it all weekend, I’ve started forcing myself to go to the store on Sunday mornings as soon as I get up.
Every fall, I get really excited to bake pies for the holidays. I start planning months in advance, reading articles, picking out recipes, and even doing test runs. But somehow, once it’s game time, disaster strikes. The food processor breaks, I burn myself or the crust burns and shrinks You name it and it’s happened.
